Shinto Shrine Wedding: Kamigamo Shrine

Did you know that the Kamigamo Shrine in Kyoto is one of the oldest and most important Shinto Shrines in all of Japan? It is located on the banks of the Kamo River in north Kyoto, and was first founded in 678AD.

It is one of the seventeen Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto which have been designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The Kamo-jinja historically serve the function of protecting Kyoto from malign influences and is dedicated to worshiping the Kamo Wake-ikazuchi = “God of Thunder”.
